In 1999 the GFTU celebrates its centenary. Founded in the heart of discussions about the direction of the trade union movement, the setting up of the GFTU in 1899 involved some of the key figures of the day including Ben Tillet of the dockers, Isaac Mitchell of the engineers and Pete Curran of the gas workers. These pages aims to highlight some of the events and views covered by the Federation in the years since.
