WORKING IN THE HEAT

In all the stories of frying eggs and buckling rails, one point stands out. Despite now being in the 21st Century, we do not have a maximum temperature protecting people at work.

We have had a minimum temperature for many years which has worked successfully but the HSE refuses to set a standard for heat, so workers wilt in bakeries, foundries, theatres, concert halls and offices across Britain.

Given the HSE refusal we will have to take a standard from elsewhere. Transported livestock have a maximum of 30C/86F, workers surely should have at least the same protection as cattle?
